Under-fire Gillingham manager Mark Stimson says he won't quit

By Andrew Gidley
Gillingham boss Mark Stimson has
vowed not to quit but admitted that every manager is "hired to be
fired".
Stimson, pictured, described
himself as "devastated and hurting" after the 4-0 defeat at
Brentford on Saturday, but questioned whether some of his players
felt it as badly.
Stimson said: "I think a few of them
let themselves down, the club and me. I take responsibility for the
performance and I know I have let the chairman down and the
supporters down.
"I won’t walk away, I was brought up
in the East End, and you face it eye to eye and get on with
it."
The Gills boss acknowledged the
unhappy Gills fans afterwards at Griffin Park, many of whom were
calling for his head.
He added: "It’s not a nice feeling,
and something you don’t want to hear as a manager. It happens, and
I probably wasn’t the only one around the country who had that
thrown at him on Saturday.
"It’s part and parcel of the job, and
I have always said I’ll do my best until the chairman tells me any
different. He is the one that will make that decision, he employed
me, and every manager is hired to be fired."
